Purpose of the fundraising
We are launching a charitable campaign to create and install a monument to Bohodar Kotorovych — a legendary Ukrainian violinist, conductor, and pedagogue — at his burial site in Baikove Cemetery, Kyiv.
This project aims to honor the life and artistic path of the Maestro — a man who embodied the highest ideals of Ukrainian musical art — and to leave a worthy sign of gratitude from future generations for his invaluable contribution to Ukraine’s culture.
Project Description
The In Memory of Bohodar Kotorovych project envisions the creation and installation of a monument to the Maestro at his burial site — Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv. The completion of the work is planned for June 2026, by the Maestro’s birthday (July 3).
Another part of the project is the creation of a memorial website (a virtual museum) — In Memory of Bohodar Kotorovych.A link to the site and brief information about the project will also be available directly at the burial site.
To create the monument, the organizers have invited the prominent Ukrainian sculptor, Honored Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Korchovyi. His artistic concept will be presented in the summer of 2026.
According to the artist’s vision, the monument will combine two main symbols:— a cross, representing the Maestro’s spiritual heritage and his origin from a family of priests;— a violin, symbolizing his vocation and his brilliant artistic journey.
At the request of the Maestro’s daughter, the monument’s composition will include living lavender — the favorite flower of Bohodar Kotorovych, which, in a truly mystical way, blooms abundantly at his resting place every year until the onset of winter.
Myroslava Kotorovych and the entire family of the Maestro sincerely thank all benefactors and contributors for their support and for making possible the realization of the idea to create a monument honoring the great musician Bohodar Kotorovych.

The life of Bohodar Kotorovych — a music that never ends
Bohodar Antonovych Kotorovych was an outstanding Ukrainian violinist, conductor, pedagogue, and People’s Artist of Ukraine. His name became a synonym for spiritual nobility, limitless devotion to art, and profound love for Ukraine.
A graduate of the Lviv Special Music School and a student of the legendary Professor Yurii Yankelevych, he combined impeccable violin mastery with a deeply Ukrainian soul.
As a soloist and conductor, Bohodar Kotorovych performed on the world’s leading stages. He was the only musician in the world who had the honor of playing Niccolò Paganini’s violin twice outside Italy. For his Kyiv concerts, Paganini’s legendary instrument was specially brought by air. He achieved worldwide success and recognition, yet remained devoted to his homeland and Ukrainian musical traditions.
His creation — the chamber ensemble Kyiv Soloists — under his leadership became a living embodiment of high artistry, freedom, and inspiration. Thanks to the Maestro, the ensemble was officially granted the title Ambassador of Ukrainian Culture in the World by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
As a pedagogue, professor, and head of the Violin Department at the National Music Academy of Ukraine, he nurtured entire generations of violinists who carry into the world his mastery, ethics, and love for music. They continue to create their own new paths — the Kotorovych School lives on, for it has a strong foundation and continues to inspire creativity.
The Maestro’s Creative Path
From the life, pedagogical work, and concert legacy of Bohodar Kotorovych
Bohodar Antonovych Kotorovych entered the history of world musical culture as one of its most distinguished figures — People’s Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, founder and permanent artistic director of the National Chamber Ensemble Kyiv Soloists, and one of the founders of the Ukrainian violin school.
Ім’я скрипаля ще за життя стало легендою і The violinist’s name became legendary during his lifetime and has forever been inscribed in the history of both national and world art. The creative phenomenon of Bohodar Kotorovych as a musician was unique — a fact emphasized in numerous Ukrainian and international reviews, as well as in written and spoken reflections by leading musicians and critics. Many films and television programs have been dedicated to his artistic journey. The life of Bohodar Kotorovych was entirely devoted to serving the highest ideals of art. His multifaceted creative and public activity, aimed at reviving the spiritual heritage of Ukrainian culture, included the nurturing of gifted youth, the broad promotion of Ukrainian art worldwide, and the strengthening of international cultural relations — becoming a powerful manifestation of Ukrainian cultural diplomacy.
As a soloist of the Kyiv Regional Philharmonic, he successfully toured in Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Croatia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Bulgaria, and many other countries.
Bohodar Kotorovych earned the widest recognition and admiration of the musical community as a brilliant interpreter of virtuoso works by Niccolò Paganini, as well as violin masterpieces by Arcangelo Corelli, Johann Sebastian Bach, Giuseppe Tartini, Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, and many others. His profound understanding of music from different eras and styles, combined with his masterful technique and deeply personal reading of every score, captivated audiences and musicologists alike.
It is no coincidence that Bohodar Kotorovych was often called “a true great master of the violin.”
However, a special place in his repertoire was reserved for works by contemporary Ukrainian composers — Yevhen Stankovych, Heorhii Maiboroda, Myroslav Skoryk, Vitalii Hubarenko, Levko Kolodub, Hanna Havrylets, and others.
Many of them created their compositions especially for the Maestro, inspired by his vast expressive range and his unmistakably individual performing style.
At the culmination of his concert career, Bohodar Kotorovych performed two concerts on Niccolò Paganini’s legendary violin “Il Cannone,” which was brought from Genoa to Kyiv by a special flight. He became the last musician ever granted the honor of performing on this historic instrument — soon after, by decision of the Genoa City Council, the violin was permanently moved to museum status. The name of the great Ukrainian Bohodar Kotorovych has become a symbol of the highest artistry and spiritual depth in the world of music.Primary source of information
